About me:
Steve has a Bachelor of Architecture featuring abroad studies, and Associate degrees in Photography and Environmental Design.
Steven is also a licensed General Contractor and "Owner's Representative". He sits on all sides of the table.
He is also a self-prescribed “gadget geek” and understands, if not fosters, the implementation of technology, IOT, and SMART technologies into the Architecture and building science.
His major project experience includes custom residential design, historic preservation, historic adaptive reuse, and light commercial renovation and upfit.
Steve's "Why"
As a HomeProJexx House Master, his passion is advising on the process of design, the ins-and-outs of construction management and contracts … avoiding the pitfalls learned in HIS school of Hard Knox as the owner of both an Architecture firm and Construction firm (at the same time!).
Steve's Expertise
Steven’s current Architecture and Construction private practice experience spans more than two decades and features both residential and commercial design/build construction. His expertise is melding construction and design together to ensure a comprehensive experience for the owner, user, and resident.
Steven owns a small Architecture firm with major project experience including custom residential design, historic preservation, historic adaptive reuse, and light commercial renovation and upfit.
His recent roles as a Project Manager and Owner’s representative put him on the Owner’s side of the business where he manages multi-million dollar residential and commercial projects. His insights from the owner, contractor, and architect side help him explain those pitfalls from all-sides.
Since 2016, Steven has been the Director of Design and Construction with a non-profit, faith-based company that manages and developers Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC).
Johnson’s role as DDC is to manage and implement all repositioning, master planning, and project management for multiple communities in the United States. His management includes land development; zoning; master planning; architectural and operations programming, construction administration, and budget management.
He has won historic preservation awards from reginal historic preservation groups, local home builder associations as well as the National Association of Home
Builders (NAHB).
He has volunteered on non-partisan historic review commissions (political appointment) and local boards for non-profit historic preservation funds.
He is the past-president and former board member for local preservation lobby groups and past-president and former board member of local chapters of the American Institute of Architects and the United States Green Building Council.
His buildings have been featured in the local tours of remodeled homes and the parade of homes, Southern Living Magazine, and historic home tours. He is consistently recognized by his peers and local press as a top ten practicing Architect.
